介绍（英）	This remarkable ivory sculpture is one of a set of four throne legs, now dispersed. Like its companions, it is distinguished by the superb sculptural quality with which its subject—an equestrian warrior—is rendered. The artist has masterfully captured the dynamic action and movement of the subject such that the sculpture is fully engaging from all angles. The columnar form of the ivory leg is turned at the base and given a double-lotus petal form. Rising from this lotus pedestal is the spectacular form of a rearing horse and his princely rider, carved in high relief and with areas of openwork that give it a compelling in-the-round presence. The capital of this columnar sculpture has a renderings of the pan-Indian kirtimukha (‘Face of Glory’). This gargoyle-like protective presence appears most famously on the tower (sikhara) of the Jagannatha temple in Puri, in coastal Odisha.
