介绍（英）	Manzi moved to Paris in the early 1880s to work for the renowned print publishing house Goupil & Cie. Soon thereafter, he befriended Degas, likely introduced through other Italian artists in his circle. This portrait is among a dozen that Manzi made of Degas, always in profile, suggesting that they may all originate from the same sketch. A pioneer of photomechanical printmaking, Manzi shared with Degas an interest in experimentation and innovative reproductive technologies. They worked together on a portfolio of twenty facsimiles of Degas's drawings in 1898. Degas also painted Manzi's portrait (ca. 1889, Musée d'Orsay), in which he shows him at work as a printmaker. Manzi dedicated this impression to Paul Arthur Chéramy, a lawyer and collector, who represented Degas at trial in 1887, when he was sued for not finishing a commission. This print is a testament to the constellation of collectors and friends orbiting around Degas in this period.
