介绍（中）	德拉克洛瓦记录了对巴黎植物园的多次访问，他特别喜欢在动物园里画狮子。他将这段经历描述为一次令人振奋的经历，鼓励了他对自然的关注："有多么必要……把头伸到门外，试图从与城市和人类作品毫无共同之处的生活之书中阅读。"这幅1841年的素描包括颜色符号："微微棕色"指的是鬃毛，"浅黄色"指的更靠近鼻子。
介绍（英）	Delacroix recorded numerous visits to the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, where he particularly enjoyed sketching the lions in the menagerie. He described the experience as a revitalizing one that encouraged his attention to nature: "How necessary it is to . . . stick one’s head out of doors and try to read from the book of life that has nothing in common with cities and the works of man." This 1841 sketch includes color notations: "slightly brown" referring to the mane and "light yellow" closer to the nose.
